aquarium algae filter
How can I stop algae out of my system in my aquarium filter?

I have a 10 gallon aquarium and have algae floating out of my filter system. Do I need a new filter complete system?

That's actually a very common problem. Algae thrive on nutrients in the water and all that water flowing through your filter is only natural algae that grow there. Even a well-kept aquarium can get some algae on the filter, but be sure to make changes water weekly and clean the gravel, which will help reduce the amount that grows in the filter. Wash the filter occasionally and usually when you do your water change. Just to clarify a bit and clean the excess algae. A little growing that there is no bad thing, is in the filter instead of the tank where it shows. The best way to maintain a reasonable amount that no brake off and float in the tank is through exchange for a little more water when you do your water changes though. This will reduce the amount of nutrients in water and therefore reduce the algae. MM
